Question: The two maps above show an island, before and after the construction of some tourist facilities. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Band 8+ Sample Answer:
(Intro & Overview) The two maps show the changes which took place on a small unspoilt island. Overall the differences in the two maps indicate that the island had developed considerably during the period, including the construction of a hotel, a restaurant and significant transport infrastructure.
(Detail 1) The Island is around 75 metres wide and about 150 metres long, and we can see from the first map that before the development took place, the island contained only natural features, including trees located at opposite ends of the island, and a small beach on the western side.
(Detail 2) Turning to the second map, two small areas of accommodation have been built in the central part of the island, in the form of two circles of huts, and in between these is a reception area. In addition, to the north there is a large restaurant, and in the south there is a newly-constructed pier, which allows boats to dock. Finally, a series of footpaths provide access to the huts and beach (which has been designated for swimming), and a vehicle track has been built to link the pier, reception and restaurant.
